EARTH NEGOTIATIONS BULLETIN

Since 2015 I have been a writer for the Earth Negotiations Bulletin, travelling the world reporting on United Nations’ negotiations on environment and sustainable development. A team of more than 80 writers from around the world, we track and analyse international progress on issues including biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, forests, climate change and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

I love my fellow ENB writers … their knowledge, passion, and dedication to sustainability in their own countries, and internationally. Together we endure late nights working to tight deadlines, the tensions, the frustrations and the celebrations involved in intergovernmental negotiations. It is a chance to catch the pulse of the global movement for sustainability, with farmers, Indigenous Peoples, youth groups, scientists, researchers and policy makers gathered in one place for a week or two at a time. I get to glimpse other peoples’ relationship to their land, water and forests, and remind myself not to get stuck or limited by what is happening just in my own country. It is energising and important to connect the local and the international, to remember that there are people all over the world asking the same questions, critiquing ‘development’ and what that actually means, what we want it to mean, and how to get there.

There are several ways to find out more, depending on your level of legal geekery. If you are a fully-fledged legal geek, check out our in-depth ENB reporting. If you are looking for an overview of environmental policy around the world, in 2019 we started an Annual Report assessing the state of global environmental governance.
