War resisters’ international

War Resisters’ International is a global network of grassroots antimilitarist and pacifist groups, with over 90 affiliated groups in 40 countries. In 2021 they celebrated their centenary, and asked me to illustrate their founding declaration:

“War is a crime against humanity. I am therefore determined not to support any kind of war and to strive for the removal of all causes of war.”

It was such a pleasure to reimagine this iconic image of the broken rifle, used countless times in many contexts throughout the past century. It reminds me that peacebuilding work is not passive, it is proactive and courageous. And whether we know it or not, there are always countless peace builders spread across the globe, working together for a world without war.
